MPI reminder about Food Act requirements

Food Product Distributers and Transporters

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has issued a reminder to transport operators involved in food and food product distribution that they need to be registered under the Food Act 2014.

In order to make sure your business is registered by 28 February 2019, members need to start planning early and make sure they apply to register their business before 30 November 2018.

MPI’s New Zealand Food Safety team says the aim is to make it easier for businesses to make safe and suitable food and comply with food safety requirements.

While the majority of food businesses have done so already, it is possible some businesses in the transport industry may not yet have registered.

Most transporters and distributors of food products will need to register under National Programme 1 (NP1).

MPI Food Safety Workshops

Members involved in food transport are also welcome to attend MPI Food Safety Workshops this month. The workshops are an introduction to the Food Act, and how to comply with food safety requirements. Workshops are being held in Hastings (19 November), Tasman (20 November), Central Otago (22 November) and South Auckland (27 November).
